Anna's World... A blog update from Anna - Sept 2010
"Just a quick update for what's been going on in my world recently!
I've finished working on a trumpet concerto for the LSO for their Sound Adventures scheme which will be performed early next year - so a very advanced deadline for the young performers to get their teeth into it! After that I was straight off to Aldeburgh Music to do a residency to do some songwriting. This is something I've been meaning to do for years - to write some solo electronic songs, some with singing, some with samples, all with beats. It's taken a while to get off the ground as it's a totally self started project but I used the residency to write eight or so songs I'm really happy with. I recently debuted some of these new songs at the Centre for Contemporary Arts in Glasgow as part of their monthly Cryptic Nights events. I worked with the cellist Olly Coates and visuals by Eleanor Meredith.
I'm about to go back to Aldeburgh now for a week long residency as part of their Faster than Sound scheme called Brainwaves where me and the electronic musician and composer Mira Calix are both writing new pieces inspired by either taking MRI scans and the resulting noises or other inspiration we've picked up whilst working with brain guru Vincent Walsh who will also be there during our residency.
After that I'll be working on an Octet for Sinfonia Viva which will be a sort of Meredith remix of the Stravinsky Octet for the forthcoming Nottingham concert at the Royal Concert Hall on Tuesday 2nd November. Then some really big plans for next year kick off... watch this space..." - Anna
