The Darley Park Concert

Sunday 31st August 2008 - from 5.30pm
Darley Park, Derby

sinfonia ViVA on stage at Darley Park, Derby

2008 marks three notable Derby centenaries - Derby Shakespeare Company, Derby Arts Festival and the establishment of the Rolls-Royce factory in the City. It also marks the anniversary of many notable figures and events in the wider world. So... today's fabulous programme reflects back exactly 100 years in one encyclopaedic volume, with musical chapters on people and subjects as diverse as Leroy Anderson, Scott Joplin, Fowlers 2nd Edition of the King’s English, Snow Blizzards, Scouting... and Ian Fleming, creator of James Bond!

sinfonia ViVA with conductor Timothy Redmond and the vocal excellence of Samantha Shaw takes the stage for this annual classical spectacular in one of the country's most beautiful parks. Amidst the picnicers and end-of-summer-holidays revellers, pick yourself out a good spot to sit and enjoy the atmosphere as darkness falls, lanterns are lit and the stars begin to pepper the evening sky. What better place could there be to enjoy terrific tunes - and with introductions by the conductor to explain the significance of the musical selections, those of you who like to try working these things out for yourselves will be able to see if your own ideas were right!

And before the main concert, catch Paper Aeroplane Project - the sensational group drawn from members of sinfonia ViVA and Derby-based band James Warner Prophecies.

PLEASE OBSERVE PARKING AND OTHER RESTRICTIONS. In the interests of safety, please do not bring barbecues, animals (there is a firework display as part of the evening) or gazebos to the park. A torch and suitable warm clothing may be useful! Please help to keep the park tidy by disposing of your rubbish carefully.
