It's Britain's biggest free outdoor concert of its kind... The Darley Park Concert, bringing pleasure to many thousands of people, young and old.
In keeping with tradition, the musical items are linked by a theme, and this year we look beyond the skies. 2009 has been identified as International Year of Astronomy marking several momentous events – including the 40th anniversary of the first manned landing on the Moon and the 400th anniversary of the use of the telescope by Galileo Galilei to observe the Moon and the planet Jupiter.
Join sinfonia ViVA with regular Darley Park concert conductor James Holmes and the sensational soprano Laura Parfitt (plus an appearance by Derby County's Pride Park tenor, Thomas Spencer-Wortley) in the wonderful setting of Darley Park for a spectacular programme of music with links to all things astronomical.
Also featured this year is the band Curios, winners of the 2008 BBC Jazz Awards Band of The Year led by Derby-born Tom Cawley who is joined by drummer Josh Blackmore who also hails from the city.
Darley Park, sloping down to the River Derwent, gives plenty of good vantage points from which to enjoy both the gorgeous music and the terrific firework finale. So, aim to get there in good time to pick yourself a cosy spot and let the energy and finesse of sinfonia ViVA sweep you away!
PLEASE OBSERVE PARKING AND OTHER RESTRICTIONS. In the interests of safety, please do not bring barbecues, sparklers, animals (a firework display is scheduled to take place as part of the evening) tents or gazebos to the park. A torch and suitable outdoor clothing may be useful. Please help to keep the park tidy by disposing of your rubbish carefully.
