A rare treat this evening as a sinfonia ViVA Ensemble aims to delight with a programme of beautiful classics in the intimate setting of St.Mary and All Saints Church in Chesterfield.
Schubert's Quartettsatz (German for 'quartet movement') testifies to the origins of the opening piece, the first movement (fragment) of string quartet No.12 of the fifteen string quartets he composed. On to Mozart and possibly the most well-known of his flute quartets, the beautiful D major K285. A short introduction to the harp follows with a solo performance on the instrument giving way to another piece needling little introduction and instantly recognisable, Ibert's lively and flowing Entr'acte. Back to Mozart for our next item, and the clarinet comes to the fore. Mozart's Clarinet Quintet in A 'Stadler' was composed with the clarinettist Anton Stadler in mind, and its lush texture calls for no less virtuosity today than it did then. And finally, to Ravel's 1905 composition the Introduction and Allegro, produced as a commission by a harp manufacturer to help promote a new instrument. Ravel wrote in a matter of days what was to become an enduring and much-loved piece.Supported by Councillor Russell, Leader of Chesterfield Borough Council, through Derbyshire County Council's Leadership Fund; Derbyshire County Council and Arts Council England
