INTERVAL

Land of the Midnight Sun... this year the breathtaking landscapes, dramatic legends and Nordic heritage of Scandinavia provide the inspiration for our glittering New Year's Eve concert bringing you some of the most beautiful and inspiring classics ever composed.

Join us for the sensuousness and rousingly patriotic melodies of Finlandia by Jean Sibelius... Wagner's fantasy journey to Valhalla by the fallen warriors in the soaring Ride of the Valkyries... Grieg's moving and passionate Piano Concerto (with virtuoso Ian Buckle returning after his sell-out performance of Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No.2 in 2007) and the lush grandeur of In The Hall of The Mountain King... the poetic and compelling Maskarade Overture from Nielsen's magical love story... soak up some seasonal waltzing joie de vivre from Johann Strauss II in the glitteringly energetic Wine, Women and Song and Tales from the Vienna Woods... plus not one but two glasses of musical 'fizz' in the sparkling Champagne Polka by Strauss, and the energetic Champagne Galop from Danish dance music master Hans Christian Lumbye to add that extra zing to round off the evening!

Music to move you – and music to raise the spirits! Join sinfonia ViVA with Timothy Redmond conducting for the ideal way to round off your old year and welcome in the new!
