"We have been attending the NYE concert for many years now... Last night's concert was the best ever New Year's Eve concert we have attended at the Royal Centre. Everything was so enjoyable - the programme was magical, the way the Timothy Redmond presented and introduced the whole programme was really superb."

INTERVAL

Sinfonia Viva invites you to enjoy Majestic Melodies - a truly magnificent evening in celebration of its 30th anniversary year - a New Year's Eve concert of gorgeous pieces with royal connections!

The scene is set with Eric Coates' optimistically rousing 1940 homage to Princess Elizabeth, The Youth of Britain – part of The Three Elizabeths suite – Purcell's elegant Chaconne from The Fairy Queen, his dramatic adaptation of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, plus the sweeping beauty of Mozart's Piano Concerto No.26, Coronation.

The regal mood continues with the brilliance of Handel's instantly-recognisable work commissioned by King George II, La Réjouissance from Music for the Royal Fireworks, and we take in the life of the courtier through the impressive Overture to Donizetti's opera Roberto Devereux, based on the life of the 2nd Count of Essex, a prominent figure in the court of Elizabeth I.

Add two aristocratic contributions from Johann Strauss junior and senior respectively – the vivacious energy of the Emperor Waltz and the stately waltzing beauty of the Homage to the Queen of Great Britain, composed in honour of Queen Victoria's ascent to the throne – plus a fabulously memorable selection of tunes from Rodgers' timeless The King and I and, of course, the historic crowning glory that is Elgar's patriotic Pomp and Circumstance March No.4, performed at the 1953 coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.

It's a programme to rival the sparkle of The Crown Jewels!

Join Sinfonia Viva with returning conductor Timothy Redmond and exciting pianist Alexandra Dariescu for an evening of great music in a terrific atmosphere – and a little seasonal fun along the way!

The perfect culmination to a memorable year.

Approximate finishing time of the concert is 9.50pm.
