Magic & Mystery
Sunday 4th March 2007
Civic Theatre, Chelmsford

The Orchestra on stage at the Civic Theatre.

Families in Chelmsford put on their wizard's robes and hats and hopped on their broomsticks to explore the wonderful world of magical music, curious creatures and fabled beasts with Alasdair Malloy and sinfonia ViVA at the Civic Theatre, Chelmsford in March 2007. Approximately 350 children and their families attended the concert as well as trolls, phoenix, mermaids, elves, gnomes, wizards and hobbits, which all featured in the proceedings!

The performance, which was led by Alasdair Malloy included an orchestra of 21 players performing magical and mysterious pieces including Grieg's Hall of the Mountain King, Berlioz's Dance of the Sylphs and Concerning Hobbits by Howard Shore. The concert also featured Saint-Saens Dance Macabre which featured violinist Nic wearing a devilish cape and playing his violin as Alasdair told the tale of the devil playing his violin whilst dancing in a graveyard.

Alasdair wowed the audience with his performance of Phantom Fairground, a piece which was written especially for him by Ian Hughes, which featured his spooky sounding glass harmonica!

The concert ended with smiling faces and dancing in the aisles to Under the Sea and a selection of themes from Harry Potter.

The concert was generously supported by Civic Theatres Chelmsford, M&G Investments and Eastern Orchestral Board.
