Fever: Around the World in 60 Minutes
Derby Royal Hospital, Nottingham Children's Centre; Rainbows Children's Hospice, Loughborough and Leicester Royal Infirmary
26-27 May 2009

On Tuesday 26 and Wednesday 27 May 2009, Lucy Forde led the next phase of the Fever project at Derby Royal Hospital, Nottingham Children's Centre, Rainbows Children's Hospice, and Loughborough and Leicester Royal Infirmary.

"The workshop was very successful as a change of routine." - (Staff member – Derby Royal Hospital)

The theme for the latest phase of Fever was Around the World in 60 Minutes. Children had produced great artwork centred on the theme which added to the feel of the session.

"Music can be adapted for all abilities therefore raising self esteem and empowering young people." - (Staff member – Derby Royal Hospital)

sinfonia ViVA musicians Isobel Adams (viola) and Matt Dunn (clarinet) joined Lucy for the hour long creative music workshop sessions which gave children and staff at each hospital the opportunity to see and hear orchestral instruments close-up and chat with professional musicians.

"I and the young person I cared for were very impressed and were able to fully participate in all activities." - (Carer - Rainbows Children’s Hospice)

Lucy led Isobel and Matt in some duets before percussion instruments were handed out to the young people and their carers. This enabled the children to join in with the music-making, recreating and experiencing music that can be typically heard in many different countries and locations from around the world.

"I felt happy that I was playing an instrument that I haven’t played before." - (Participant)

sinfonia ViVA are looking forward to arranging more sessions in the next phase of Fever for children and their carers in the near future.
