Beanbag Proms - Slurp! Crunch! Chew!
Royal Centre, Nottingham
Saturday 20 February 2010
The Beanbag Proms returned on 20 February 2010 with Beanie Bear, Alasdair Malloy and sinfonia ViVA at the Royal Centre Hall Foyer, Nottingham, with the latest installment of the popular series, Slurp! Crunch! Chew!
"We loved it all!" - Parent
The theme of this Prom was food and it started with Alasdair introducing the instruments separately as each entered the room playing their own food related tune including A Spoonful of Sugar and Food Glorious Food. Once all the musicians had entered the arrival of Beanie Bear and her song meant that all the children could join in the song and dance.
The parents showed off their vocal skills during the Mirlitons from The Nutcracker by Tchaikovsky singing the lyrics to Everyone's a Fruit and Nutcase from the famous chocolate bar advert and everyone enjoyed Trepak also from The Nutcracker.
"I've collected all the percussion instruments from around the house and put them in the dining room so the children and I can join in with music on the radio." - Parent
The highlight of the concert was the big sing-along to On Top of Spaghetti with the children and adults joining in with the words. The children enjoyed galloping about like horses during Rossini's William Tell Gallop.
Jeremy on percussion gave his best bear impression during Teddy Bear's Picnic growling loudly but was not expecting the response from the children who growled so loud that Jeremy had to hide out of fright!
"The most effective aspect of the concert was allowing the children to explore the instruments after." - Parent
Beanie Bear, Alasdair and all the children danced away to the last piece of the concert Peanut Vendor before the children had the chance to meet the musicians – this is always a very popular part of the concert enabling the children to see the instruments up close and even try them out!
