On what makes working with sinfonia ViVA special...

sinfonia ViVA never lose sight of the two most important aspects of an orchestra - the artistic integrity of its output, and the uniqueness of its individuals. Whilst working with ViVA I have always been inspired by the ways in which it manages to work in so many varied and stimulating contexts and to still hold on to the integrity of its identity. ViVA was a pioneer in education work that genuinely engaged full orchestral forces and resources. Their commitment to performing in new contexts and with new musics has resulted in a dynamically creative environment. They take on artistic and social challenges of which many orchestras are barely aware.

The ever growing support, enthusiasm and commitment of the musicians for the work I have directed has been both inspiring and energising. They have enabled me to work in a more exploratory and challenging way than is possible with the majority of orchestras. They are prepared to take risks in all aspects of their work. Most of all, however, it is their reluctance to stay still and their constant search for new and more challenging projects that makes them such a stimulating orchestra to work with.
