On what makes working with sinfonia ViVA special...

Over the past ten years I have enjoyed a very creative relationship with ViVA which has seen the development of some very exciting and innovative projects, performances, training and even the invention of new instruments. During this time I feel that I have been both encouraged and enabled to develop as an artist and facilitator through the support and opportunities provided by ViVA. It has been refreshing to discover an orchestra willing to give equal weight to participatory projects, providing a platform for people to develop their creativity, ideas and confidence within professional performances. Indeed it is the willingness of ViVA to undertake ambitious projects and place them within the core artistic programme which sets it apart from other organisations. Projects and performances have utilised live electronics, surround sound, live video projection, live video instruments, made instruments, installations and have worked with all sections of the community.

As an organisation ViVA have been brave, developing projects and processes which many other music organisation would not have understood let alone supported. This has resulted in a creative culture which has benefited artists, musicians and communities through innovative and professional practice. I very much value the artistic quality of this relationship which I feel is based upon a mutual understanding of artistic goals, the potential benefits to participants, musicians, artists and the belief that the quality of innovation, delivery, production and performance is key to our experience of the arts.
