On what makes sinfonia ViVA special...

Many of the players have played together for a long time. Matthew Lax (Orchestra Manager) does a brilliant job and everything runs very smoothly. It is one of the friendliest orchestras I work with. Lots of interesting programmes and every one plays well.

On a typical day with sinfonia ViVA...

A typical day working with ViVA is hard to explain because every date is different. As well as regular concerts in Derby and Nottingham the Orchestra performs all over the country and occasionally abroad in small and large towns and cities. The majority of the work is in the north and east of the country giving us a chance to see some beautiful places - and the traffic is not as bad as down south!

On personal fulfillment through involvement with ViVA outreach and education projects...

The Orchestra does lots of superb outreach work with school age kids. It's always an inspiration to me to see how children with no previous experience of making music can be so excited by taking part in a performance at the end of a project and often really producing something worthwhile and more successful than any of us imagined. Many children especially in Derby have been lucky enough to take part in some spectacular shows in the Assembly Rooms with hundreds of other children, an experience that has thrilled me and I know will stay with them for many years.
