News: Rock Indie and Classical Evolution at the Assembly Rooms, Derby
March 2008

Classical musicians from sinfonia ViVA, the East Midlands' based professional orchestra, have joined forces with iconic Derby band The James Warner Prophecies to compose an original track which they will perform as part of a popular Evolution band night at the Assembly Rooms in March 2008.
The four-piece JWP, which is a mix of heavy rock, acoustic and indie, is working alongside four ViVA musicians featuring viola, clarinet, percussion and music technologist to develop JWP's recently composed but as yet unfinished track Paper Aeroplanes which they will all perform for the first time on Saturday March 22.
ViVA's Marianne Quintrell commented: "This project is another exciting phase in our growing relationship with the Assembly Rooms. The Evolution band nights are hugely popular at the Assembly Rooms and we agreed that it would be really interesting to bring together a successful local band with the Orchestra to compose a unique piece of music and merge these two very different cultures."
JWP bassist Sam Jordan continued: "We are working well with the ViVA musicians and the results are very exciting almost epic in some places and quiet and tender in others. In some ways it's a continuation of what we've always tried to achieve large sonic sound scapes and lots of different instruments and movements but with ViVA this has been taken into a completely new realm altogether. We have more scope instrumentation wise and a lovely bunch of people to bounce ideas off. The music is still us but a whole lot bigger and were proud to have the chance to be doing something quite different to any other band in Derby."
ViVA clarinettist Matthew Dunn added: "It's good to have a mixture of different genres of music - starting with a standard band set up and then having unusual instruments added to it to provide a real variety of sounds and tone colours. This is very stimulating work as there is a real mixture of ideas. We all approach the same things from different technical angles which provides a really good mix."
Tickets for Evolution at the Assembly Rooms, Derby, on Saturday March 22 at 6.30pm are available from the Assembly Rooms Box Office, Tel: 01332 255800.
