News: Celebrating Entertainment Through The Ages
March 2009

Local young people will share centre stage with professional actors and musicians at a special performance at the Pomegranate Theatre in Chesterfield on Monday March 16 as part of the theatre's 60th anniversary celebrations.
The Tarradiddle project celebrates Chesterfield's entertainment through the ages from Morris dancing to Facebook through original written pieces and specially composed music. It is a collaboration between Pomegranate Youth Theatre, Pomegranate Playwriting Group, Newbold Community School and sinfonia ViVA.
Young people, professional actors and musicians have been working together under the leadership of ViVA's Tim Steiner and director Carole Copeland to develop and rehearse the words and compose their own music for the performance. ViVA Education Manager Marianne Quintrell explained: "Tarradiddle is a very appropriate project to help celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Pomegranate Theatre as it merges historical and modern day entertainment influences and brings together professional artists with the young talent of the future."
Pomegranate Theatre Arts Projects Officer Carole Copeland added: "Members of the youth theatre, playwriting group as well as Newbold Community School pupils have contributed greatly to the workshops to bring the words and music to life. The culmination of their work will be a high energy performance alongside professional actors and musicians to illustrate entertainment through the ages."
The project is supported by Chesterfield Borough Council, Derbyshire County Council, Orchestras Live, sinfonia ViVA and Arts Council England.
Tickets for the performance on Monday 16th March 2009 at 7.00pm at the Pomegranate Theatre, Chesterfield, are available from 01246 345222.
