News: Sinfonia Viva on Gorillaz Album

East Midlands-based orchestra Sinfonia Viva will feature on two pieces of music from the new Gorillaz album Plastic Beach.

Sinfonia Viva opens the record with an orchestral introduction and also appears on Cloud of Unknowing featuring Bobby Womack.

The Orchestra recorded their pieces for the celebrated album (released on March 8) more than 18 months ago in the old Rolls-Royce foundry in Osmaston Road, Derby – chosen for its historical and industrial connections.

Sinfonia Viva Principal Conductor André de Ridder said: "We were delighted to be invited to take part in the Gorillaz album. Although the Orchestra has a wide repertoire of traditional and contemporary classical music, it is safe to say that this is our first foray into the world of popular music. We are therefore all extremely excited about the release of Plastic Beach."
