Ives   Unanswered Question

Schubert   Symphony No.6

Haydn   Symphony No.104

Join us for an evening of graceful serenades and celebrated greatness at Derby Cathedral.

Conducted by Sinfonia Viva’s Principal Conductor Duncan Ward, the Orchestra will start the evening with Ives Unanswered Question, a pieceAaron Copland considered to be "among the finest works ever created by an American artist." The music was used in the 1972 short film directed by Donald Fox based on the tale "Young Goodman Brown" by author Nathaniel Hawthorne. It was also used in the 1998 film Run Lola Run and in The Thin Red Line directed by Terrence Malik.

Next Schubert’s exceptional Symphony No.6 will ring out through the grand setting of Derby Cathedral, making the piece nicknamed ‘Little C Major’ sound all the more powerful, before finishing with Joseph Haydn's final symphony, the wonderful and enigmatic Symphony No.104.

This concert is part of the Twilights series, where Derby Cathedral and Sinfonia Viva present the highest quality live music, in the grandest of settings.

This concert is presented in association with Orchestras Live.
