sinfonia ViVA is a key ingredient within Derby's cultural offer. It provides high-quality concerts, first-class participatory work and is a major player within Derby's wider arts infrastructure.
sinfonia ViVA, the East Midlands' only professional orchestra which was founded in 1982, has been based in Derby since 1995. It has established strong links in the city and gives a full programme of activity each year. This includes:
- two concerts in the Assembly Rooms' international concert season;
- two major outreach residencies working in education establishments and communities across Derby each of which culminates in a major performance in the City's concert hall – The Assembly Rooms. In total an average of 500 people are involved in these residencies with another 2,500 attending as audience members;
- a major outdoor concert in Darley Park at the beginning of September which regularly attracts over 30,000 people.
